Olive Leaf Extract & Weight Management: What The Research Shows
Olive leaf extract is rich in oleuropein and has some evidence for blood pressure and blood sugar, but little for weight loss.
Here is a plain look at what is known and what is not.
Where olive leaf extract comes from
Olive leaf extract is taken from the leaves of the olive tree, not the fruit or oil. Its main active compound is oleuropein, a polyphenol that gives olive leaf its bitter taste and most of its antioxidant activity.
What human studies suggest
Small trials have looked at olive leaf extract for blood pressure and blood sugar, with modest, mixed results. Weight loss is a weaker story: there are few human trials and the effects are small. It is better described as general metabolic and antioxidant support.
Why oleuropein is listed separately
OliveBurn names both Olive Leaf Extract and Oleuropein. Since oleuropein is already in the leaf, the second entry may mean a standardized extract was added, but no amounts are published. See the ingredient page.
The safety angle
Because olive leaf may lower blood pressure and blood sugar, it matters if you take medication. Read our interaction guide.
